Sentence Structure C2
Both end in -ant and both translate the same way in English, but the gérondif says while or by and the participle says which or who — the two can never be swapped.
Sentence Structure — Word order, negation, questions and linking words.
The gérondif is en plus a present participle: en marchant, en arrivant. It is adverbial and tells how, when or under what condition: "En marchant vite, il est arrivé tôt." The participe présent is verbal-adjectival and replaces a relative clause: "Les personnes marchant vite arrivent tôt" means the same as "qui marchent vite".
gérondif, en और वर्तमान कृदंत से बनता है: en marchant, en arrivant। यह क्रिया-विशेषणीय है और बताता है कि कैसे, कब या किस शर्त पर: "En marchant vite, il est arrivé tôt." Participe présent कृदंत-विशेषणीय है और संबंधवाचक उपवाक्य का स्थान लेता है: "Les personnes marchant vite arrivent tôt" का अर्थ "qui marchent vite" जैसा ही है।
gérondif: en + -ant, and it must share the subject of the main verb. participe présent: -ant used like an adjective, no en, and it may take its own object.
The error to avoid is the dangling gérondif: its subject must be the subject of the main verb. "En arrivant, la porte était fermée" is wrong because the door did not arrive. To qualify a noun instead, use the participe présent: "La porte étant fermée…".
बचने योग्य ग़लती लटकता gérondif है: इसका कर्ता मुख्य क्रिया के कर्ता के समान होना चाहिए। "En arrivant, la porte était fermée" ग़लत है क्योंकि दरवाज़ा पहुँचा ही नहीं। किसी संज्ञा को योग्य बनाने के लिए participe présent प्रयोग करें: "La porte étant fermée…"।
C2 correction exercises frequently contrast en + -ant with the bare -ant; if the phrase answers how or whether it needs en, and if it replaces qui it must not have en.
C2 के सुधार अभ्यास प्रायः en + -ant और अकेले -ant की तुलना करते हैं; यदि वाक्यांश कैसे या क्या का उत्तर दे तो en चाहिए, और यदि वह qui का स्थान ले तो en नहीं होना चाहिए।
