Sentence Structure C1
When the reporting verb sits in the past, every tense inside the quotation shifts back one step, and the time and place words move with it.
Sentence Structure — Word order, negation, questions and linking words.
After "Il a dit que…" the tenses shift: présent becomes imparfait, passé composé becomes plus-que-parfait, futur becomes conditionnel, and futur antérieur becomes conditionnel passé. The past of the reporting verb is not itself shifted; it is the anchor that makes everything else move.
"Il a dit que…"
» से Ils ont annoncé qu'ils partiraient le lendemain बनता है।
The classic slip is to keep the original tense: "Il a dit qu'il viendra." That mixes two timelines. The future of the quotation has to become the conditional because the statement was made in the past. Remember too that a reported question keeps its if-clause: "Il a demandé si je partais", never "Il a demandé si je pars".
सबसे आम चूक मूल काल को वैसे ही रख देना है: "Il a dit qu'il viendra." इससे दो समय-रेखाएँ मिल जाती हैं। उद्धरण का भविष्य conditionnel बनना चाहिए क्योंकि कथन भूतकाल में कहा गया था। यह भी याद रखें कि अप्रत्यक्ष प्रश्न अपना if-उपवाक्य बनाए रखता है: "Il a demandé si je partais" सही है, "Il a demandé si je pars" कभी नहीं।
Reported speech is a favourite TCF reading-and-writing point: the passage gives you a quotation and the question asks which reported version preserves the meaning, so the time word (demain, hier) usually decides the answer.
अप्रत्यक्ष कथन TCF के पठन और लेखन का पसंदीदा बिंदु है: गद्यांश एक उद्धरण देता है और प्रश्न पूछता है कि कौन-सा अप्रत्यक्ष रूप अर्थ बनाए रखता है, इसलिए समय-सूचक शब्द (demain, hier) प्रायः उत्तर तय करता है।
