Sentence Structure B1
The mark in a written argument is not on your grammar but on whether the links between your sentences actually hold.
Sentence Structure — Word order, negation, questions and linking words.
mais contradicts on the same level: Je veux y aller, mais je n'ai pas d'argent. cependant and nevertheless register the contrast across two sentences: Il travaille beaucoup. Cependant, ses résultats sont moyens. en revanche does the exact opposite — it must be followed by the SAME subject and it marks a balanced pair: Pierre est prodige. En revanche, Paul est médiocre. Use en revanche wrongly and a French reader hears an attack on the second person.
parce que can join two clauses AND can stand alone, so it is flexible but informal in speech. car is NEVER followed by que and never stands alone; it is written, not spoken, and it means the reason is obvious and not worth arguing: Il est absent, car il est malade. At B1 you are marked on using car in writing, not on saying it aloud.
parce que दो वाक्य जोड़ सकता है और अकेला भी खड़ा हो सकता है, इसलिए लचीला है पर बोलचाल में अनौपचारिक। car के बाद कभी que नहीं आता और यह अकेला खड़ा भी नहीं होता; यह लिखने वाला है, बोलने वाला नहीं, और इसका मतलब है कि कारण साफ़ है: Il est absent, car il est malade. B1 पर आपको car लिखने में अंक मिलता है, बोलने में नहीं।
donc is the everyday one. par conséquent and c'est pourquoi are the written ones, and c'est pourquoi takes the tense and the meaning of the MAIN statement, not of the consequence: "Il a plu. C'est pourquoi la course a été annulée." — the course really was cancelled; it is not a hypothesis.
donc रोज़मर्रा का है। par conséquent और c'est pourquoi लिखने वाले हैं, और c'est pourquoi मुख्य कथन की काल और अर्थ लेता है, परिणाम का नहीं: "Il a plu. C'est pourquoi la course a été annulée." — दौड़ वाकई रद्द हुई थी; यह परिकल्पना नहीं है।
Je comprends cet argument. Cependant, je ne suis pas d'accord. En revanche, je propose une autre solution. Par conséquent, nous pouvons discuter maintenant. Four links, four different jobs: understanding, opposition, balanced contrast, consequence.
Je comprends cet argument. Cependant, je ne suis pas d'accord. En revanche, je propose une autre solution. Par conséquent, nous pouvons discuter maintenant. चार जोड़, चार अलग काम: समझ, विरोध, संतुलित उपनयास, परिणाम।
French or means THEREFORE, not but. It introduces a consequence that the previous sentence set up, and it is a formal written connector: "Il pleut depuis trois jours. Or la rivière a débordé." English has no single word for this, which is why it is missed constantly. Its opposite, "mais", is the everyday word and cannot carry this meaning.
फ़्रेंच का or का अर्थ है इसलिए, लेकिन नहीं। यह उस वाक्य से उत्पन्न परिणाम लाता है जो पिछला वाक्य तैयार कर चुका था, और यह औपचारिक लिखने वाला जोड़ है: "Il pleut depuis trois jours. Or la rivière a débordé." अंग्रेज़ी में इसका कोई एक शब्द नहीं है, इसलिए यह लगातार छूटता है। इसका विपरीत शब्द mais रोज़मर्रा का है और यह अर्थ नहीं ले सकता।
The examiner interrupts after about two minutes to ask you to justify a point. Almost every candidate can state an opinion; what separates the bands is whether they can CONCEDE and then continue: "On peut utiliser cette méthode, mais elle demande beaucoup de temps." Conceding correctly is the single highest-value thing you can practise at B1.
परीक्षक लगभग दो मिनट बाद आपको किसी बात का समर्थन करने के लिए रोकता है। लगभग हर उम्मीदवार राय रख सकता है; पट्टी अलग करता है यह है कि वह मान कर आगे बढ़ सकता है या नहीं: "On peut utiliser cette méthode, mais elle demande beaucoup de temps." सही तरीके से मान लेना B1 पर सबसे ज़्यादा अंक दिलाने वाली एक चीज़ है।
