Les pronoms sujets

Pronouns A1

Seven words do the work English does with dozens. Three of them are contractions, and "on" carries three different meanings.

Pronouns — Subject, object, possessive, demonstrative and relative pronouns.

The seven pronouns

je, tu, il / elle, nous, vous, ils / elles. Two contractions explain most of what looks irregular: je + aime becomes j'aime, and de + le becomes du / de l'.

je, tu, il / elle, nous, vous, ils / elles। जो कुछ अनियमित लगता है, उसका अधिकांश दो संकुचनों से समझ आता है: je + aime होकर j'aime बनता है, और de + le होकर du / de l' बनता है।

"on" means three different things

on can replace nous (inclusive we), replace il or elle, or mean people in general: on parle français = French is spoken / people speak French. In all three the verb is the third person singular, so the pronoun tells you nothing about who did it.

on हमें आप सहित हम (nous) की जगह ले सकता है, il या elle की जगह ले सकता है, या सामान्य लोगों का बोध करा सकता है: on parle français = फ़्रेंच बोला जाता है / लोग फ़्रेंच बोलते हैं। तीनों में क्रिया तीसरे पुरुष एकवचन में रहती है, इसलिए सर्वनाम यह नहीं बताता कि किसने किया।

Dropping the subject entirely

Because the verb ending already shows the person, French usually omits the subject: (Je) parle français, (Nous) habitons à Delhi. The subject is only added for emphasis or contrast: Moi, je veux du café, pas de l'eau.

चूँकि क्रिया के अंत से व्यक्ति पता चल जाता है, फ़्रेंच प्रायः कर्ता हटा देता है: (Je) parle français, (Nous) habitons à Delhi। कर्ता केवल ज़ोर देने या तुलना के लिए जोड़ा जाता है: Moi, je veux du café, pas de l'eau।

Everyday French

vous covers both "you singular formal" and "you plural", which is why a shopkeeper says vous to one customer. Addressing several friends casually also takes vous: vous voulez un café ?

vous दोनों बातें समाहता है — "आप" एकवचन औपचारिक और "तुम" बहुवचन — इसीलिए दुकानदार एक ग्राहक से भी vous कहता है। कई दोस्तों को बोधरहित संबोधन भी vous लेता है: vous voulez un café ?

Keeping the English subject

"I am a student" becomes Je suis un étudiant, not I je suis. And French does not distinguish he from she or they in the verb, so there is no reason to add il or ils out of habit.

"I am a student" का *Je suis un étudiant बनता है, *I je suis नहीं। और फ़्रेंच क्रिया में वह और वह या वे का भेद नहीं करता, इसलिए बानाने की आदत से il या ils जोड़ने की कोई वजह नहीं।
