Sentence Structure B1
When you report what someone said, the tense moves back one step and your own opinion must stay out of the sentence.
Sentence Structure — Word order, negation, questions and linking words.
Present in the original becomes present in the report when it is still true, and becomes passé composé when it is finished: "Je suis malade." gives Il dit qu'il est malade. / Il a dit qu'il était malade. The imperfect describing a scene stays imperfect. The conditionnel moves to the past: "Je viendrai." gives Il a dit qu'il viendrait.
मूल वाक्य का présent, अगर बात अब भी सच है तो रिपोर्ट में भी présent रहता है, और अगर पूरी हो चुकी है तो passé composé बन जाता है: "Je suis malade." से Il dit qu'il est malade. / Il a dit qu'il était malade। दृश्य वर्णन करने वाला imparfait imparfait ही रहता है। Conditionnel भूत हो जाता है: "Je viendrai." से Il a dit qu'il viendrait।
DIRECT STATEMENT takes que: Il dit que... DIRECT QUESTION takes si, meaning whether: Il demande si... INDIRECT QUESTION takes de before the question word: Il demande quand / où / pourquoi la gare est loin. NEGATIVE takes ne ... pas, and never "pas que": Il ne dit pas que...
सीधा कथन लेता है que: Il dit que... सीधा प्रश्न लेता है si, जिसका अर्थ है कि या नहीं: Il demande si... अप्रत्यक्ष प्रश्न लेता है de, प्रश्न शब्द से पहले: Il demande quand / où / pourquoi la gare est loin. नकारात्मक लेता है ne ... pas, और कभी "pas que" नहीं: Il ne dit pas que...
Some reporting verbs say only "said": dire, répondre, expliquer, répéter. Others carry the speaker's attitude, and that changes what the report means: aimer means likes, adorer means adores, détester means hates, croire means thinks, espérer means hopes, refuser means refuses, soupçonner means suspects.
(he was counting on it) warned gives Il a menacé de ne pas venir. He did not simply report — the verb changed what happened next.
"Je ne viendrai pas." कहने पर Il a dit qu'il ne viendrait pas. (साधारण रिपोर्ट) उम्मीद व्यक्त करने पर Il a dit qu'il viendrait. (वह उसी की आशा कर रहा था) चेतावनी देने पर Il a menacé de ne pas venir. उसने सीधे रिपोर्ट नहीं की — क्रिया ने यह बदल दिया कि आगे क्या हुआ।
First, writing "Il a dit que il viendrait" instead of "Il a dit qu'il viendrait": the que swallows the vowel, so il becomes qu'il. Second, "J'ai demandé où est la gare" instead of "Je lui ai demandé où était la gare": a reported question is a statement, so it has a subject and a verb. Third, and most common, keeping your own opinion: "Il a dit qu'il est malade, je pense qu'il ment" is two sentences, not one.
